This procedure is done on an outpatient basis and can be done fairly quickly, sometimes in as little as 20 minutes. Most people are back at work within 48 hours. After the procedure, a lot of people feel like they need to have a bowel moment, but this symptom goes away over the next two days. There is a minimum of post-operative bleeding and in some cases no bleeding. This procedure also results in a minimum of long term side effect associated with hemorrhoidectomies such as infection, fissures, incontinence and anal bleeding.

Hemorrhoidal Artery Ligation

There is another option to remove a hemorrhoid called Hemorrhoidal Artery Ligation (HAL), also known as Transanal Hemorrhoidal Dearterialization (THD). In this method, it locates the blood vessels causing the hemorrhoid using an ultrasound and ligates, or closes off, those blood vessels. This is more effective than rubber banding, but also has a higher cost and has longer-lasting pain result. This is the first option if the first rubber banding fails depending on the type of hemorrhoid.

Hemorrhoid Treatment Without Surgery

Hemorrhoids (Piles) are blood vessels located in the smooth muscles of the walls of the rectum and anus. They are a normal part of the anatomy and are located at the junction where small arteries merge into veins. They are cushioned by smooth muscles and connective tissue and are classified by where they are located in relationship to the pectinate line, the dividing point between the upper 2/3 and lower 1/3 of the anus.
